Centrul Vechi (Old Town / Lipscani)
M2 Universitate · M3 Piața Unirii

The world's second-largest administrative building. Guided tours by advance booking (passport required!). 1–2 hours, lots of stairs. The balcony view is the best part.
Day trips
If you're staying longer
Castles, lakes, medieval towns — all under 2 hours by train or car.
Sinaia + Castelul Peleș
1h 45m by train from Gara de Nord
Peleș Castle — Romania's royal castle, neo-Gothic, packed with carved wood and tapestries. Direct train from Gara de Nord, 5 minutes from our hostel. In summer, buy castle tickets ½ day ahead.
Brașov + Castelul Bran
2h 30m by train, then bus
Brașov — medieval Saxon town with a beautiful main square and the Black Church. From there, bus to Bran (~30 min). Bran Castle is marketed as "Dracula's" — Vlad the Impaler never lived there, but the castle is still worth the visit.
Lacul Snagov
40 min by car (no direct train)
A big lake north of Bucharest — beaches, pier bars, boat rides. The Snagov Monastery on the island is where Vlad the Impaler is reportedly buried. Perfect summer day trip.
