Popcorn Hostel rules and useful information

We strictly enforce the following times. They are inflexible:

• Check-in: after 2:00 PM

• Check-out: before 11:00 AM

Dorm check-out is at 11:00. By then you take everything out of your bed, locker and dorm. No exceptions.

Late Access is not a luggage deposit and not a bed. Late Access = lobby and common areas only. After 11:00 you no longer have access to the dorms and you cannot leave anything there.

Paid storage — only if you buy it in advance. We keep your luggage only if you have purchased the "Luggage storage" extra service (Add-on Services): 1) during online check-in, at the "Extra services" step, or 2) from the live guidebook (the same link you received by email after booking).

Without this paid add-on there is no storage. A message like "keep my bag until tonight / for a month" is not a booking.

If you leave something in the dorm after 11:00 without the add-on: the item counts as unclaimed. We remove it from the dorm immediately (the bed and locker must be freed for the next guest) and hand it over to the Police. We do not keep it "somewhere" in the hostel: there is no secure space outside the paid storage.

Keep your documents, money and electronics with you.

By signing the rules at check-in you confirm that you have understood.

Legal basis: art. 2127, 2131, 2115, 2137, 942–943 of the Romanian Civil Code — hotel deposit may be refused if it is inconvenient given the conditions of the establishment; unclaimed goods are handed over to the police.

Items left at the hostel after check-out are treated as unclaimed, under the “Luggage after check-out” rule: we hand them over to the Police. We do not keep them at the hostel and do not send them by courier.

Guests can cancel reservations at any time. Reservations are non-refundable — the full reservation price will be charged.

Passport mandatory for non-EU citizens, ID for EU citizens. Driver licenses are not accepted.

Please upload an unmodified copy of your document. False, altered or unclear documents will result in cancellation.

These temperatures follow Romanian law and target overall guest comfort. Neither guests nor staff are allowed to adjust the settings.

Quiet hours: 22:00 – 09:00.

During this window please avoid noise in common areas and dorms so every guest sleeps well. Normal-volume conversations in the courtyard are fine if they do not disturb the neighbours.

All Popcorn Hostel dorms are shared and mixed-gender — men and women stay in the same dorm, regardless of dorm type. We do not offer gender-separated, private or single dorms.

The 2-bed dorm is also a shared dorm. If you book both beds, only guests in your booking use that dorm, but staff may enter at any time.

Staff may enter any dorm at any time, including dorms fully booked by one person or one group. Staff do not knock before entering.

Exception: in dorms occupied by children or school groups, staff do not enter unannounced; access happens only in force majeure/a real emergency or, for necessary checks, after notice and in the presence of a teacher or responsible accompanying adult.

In a hostel with shared dorms, guests must never be in embarrassing situations in the dorm. Decent clothing and decent behaviour are required at all times, day and night.

Guests are responsible for making their beds during their stay. Black mattress covers are permanent and washed monthly — sleeping directly on them is forbidden.

Only the white bedding (sheets, pillowcases) is changed after each guest leaves.

Decent attire is mandatory, including in dormitories and hallways. Walking around with only a towel around the waist is forbidden.

Guests with strong body odour, or whose clothes or luggage smell unpleasant and disturb other guests, will be warned by staff. If the problem is not fixed after the warning, the guest will be evicted without a refund of the amount paid.

Each guest sleeps only in the bed booked in their name. You may not bring other people into your bed or dorm, swap beds with each other, or move mattresses and bedding without staff's consent.

Do not eat or keep open food in the dorms: it attracts insects and leaves smells. Eat in the kitchen or the common areas.

Bed bugs are not about how clean a place is: they travel in luggage, clothes and bags, and guests can unknowingly bring them from other accommodation, trains or buses. Popcorn Hostel has no bed bug infestation and we work hard on prevention. If you notice signs or bites, tell staff right away so we can act. The hostel cannot be held liable for insects brought in by guests in their luggage.

Sexual activity is not allowed in shared dorms. Do not film or photograph other guests without their consent.

We reserve the absolute right to refuse entry or evict any individual without compensation for any unutilized stay if behaviour compromises the safety, security or experience of other guests.

Staff may cancel the booking of, or refuse entry to, a guest who seriously breaks these rules, endangers the safety of others or does not comply after a warning. In these cases unused nights are not refunded.

Use of facilities involves inherent risks. Hostel representatives are not liable for harm except for damages directly resulting from negligent actions as defined by law.

Children under 16 are accepted only when the entire dorm is occupied by the children and their responsible accompanying adults, including 2-bed dorms. Organized school/youth groups require prior group confirmation. Children are not placed in dorms with unrelated guests. In dorms occupied by children or school groups, staff do not enter unannounced. Staff access happens only in force majeure/a real emergency or, for necessary checks, after notice and in the presence of a teacher or responsible accompanying adult.

No pets are allowed.

Smoking is not allowed in dorms or common spaces. Designated smoking areas are provided outside.

Use a towel and non-slip slippers when entering the shower.

Firearms, projectile-capable items, sharp/bladed weapons, blunt instruments, explosives, flammable substances, illegal drugs and toxic substances are strictly forbidden.

Be aware of stairs, hallways and bathrooms — slipping risk is high. Visitors fully assume these risks.

People not staying at the hostel have no access to the dorms. Visitors may stay in the common areas only with staff's prior consent.

E-scooters, e-bikes and their batteries are not charged in the dorms. Candles, hot plates, cooking appliances and any open flame are forbidden in the rooms.

Using or holding illegal drugs at the hostel leads to immediate eviction without a refund and a call to the Police. Drunkenness that disturbs other guests is handled under the eviction rule.

The hostel’s common areas are under audio and video surveillance for the safety of guests and their belongings. There are no cameras in the dorms or bathrooms. Recordings are kept for a limited time, are accessed only by authorised people and may be handed to the Police in case of theft or an incident.

The hostel does not guarantee permanent parking. Absence of parking is not grounds for cancellation.

Access may be limited for technical, cleaning or maintenance reasons. No reductions or refunds are issued in such cases.

Individuals with severe physical or mental disabilities who require supervision are welcome, provided they are accompanied by an adult and do not disturb other guests.

Every bed has a personal locker with a key. Money, documents, electronics and anything of value are kept locked in the locker. Items left unlocked on the bed, in the dorm or in common areas remain the guest's own responsibility.

We recommend not bringing high-value items. The hostel's liability for guests' belongings is the one set by the Romanian Civil Code, within the limits set by law.

Any damage or theft must be reported to staff as soon as it is discovered, and theft must also be reported to the Police (112). Claims made after check-out can no longer be checked.

Guests are liable for damages caused by their behaviour, including damages to third parties.

Every guest must keep the place clean and remove the dirt and waste they produce — in the dorms as well as in the kitchen, bathrooms, hallways, courtyard and on the pavement in front of the hostel. This duty covers only the mess the guest makes and is a rule of responsible use of the space, not a service performed for the hostel. If the mess needs specialised cleaning or poses a risk, the guest must tell staff.

Guests are welcome to help keep the common areas clean — lobby, hallways, kitchen, bathrooms, courtyard and pavement — on their own initiative. Helping gives no right to any payment, price reduction or other benefit of any kind, and it is not an obligation. General cleaning of the hostel remains the job of the employed staff.

A guest who leaves a mess behind will be penalised. In serious cases, the hostel reserves the right to cancel the booking without a refund. Also, a guest who notices a mess and does not report it to staff may be held responsible for it themselves. So it is better to report it than to risk arguments or unfair accusations.

Food in the fridge goes in a bag or box labelled with your name and departure date. Unlabelled, expired or left-behind food is thrown away after check-out. Dishes and utensils are washed, dried and put back right after use.

A lost or damaged locker key and any broken hostel item are charged at the cost of replacement or repair.

To maintain a harmonious environment, please avoid discussions involving politics, sexual orientation, religion and COVID-related matters within the hostel.

Any dispute will first be addressed amicably. If not possible, it falls under the jurisdiction of the court in Bucharest.

The hostel may update these rules. An existing booking is governed by the rules published on the date it was made, except for changes required by law or by guest safety.

The hostel reserves the right to take legal action to obtain compensation from any guest who does not comply with its rules.

By staying at our hostel, you acknowledge and consent to these rules unconditionally.
